Use a separate 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable to connect each Gilson device (and the Rainin/Varian pumps) to a serial interface on the PC. Controlling one Gilson device from another Gilson device is an exception; for example, if you combine several pumps in a high-pressure gradient system or if you combine the Gilson 231 XL autosampler or the Gilson ASPEC XL sampler with the Gilson 402 Dilutor. In this case, directly connect the Gilson device to be controlled to a serial interface on the PC, using a Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 Adapter Cable. Connect the Gilson device that is controlled by this device, using a pure GSIOC cable.

 Tips:

The Gilson 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable is shipped from the factory with the baud rate set to 19200. For some Gilson device drivers, you have to set the baud rate to 9600 to control the instruments by Chromeleon (see the setting on the General tab page of the instrument's properties). Open the connector housing. Resolder the cable from pad A to pad B:

Always connect Gilson instruments requiring a 605 GSIOC RS-232 adapter cable to the multi-serial 8-fold PCI interface card (8-RS-232 Multi-COM card, Dionex part no. 5906.2095). Dionex does not recommend connecting these instruments to other RS-232 ports; for example, with the COM ports on the Dionex UCI as communication problems might occur. The power supply of the GSIOC adapter (type 605) is directly via the RS-232 interface. However, the RS-232 ports of the UCI are not designed for this.
